The Dorothy Day Place is a transitional shelter for formerly homeless men and women in Rockville Maryland. Along with several residents and staff, Everybody Grows planted a garden of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of fresh herbs, all designed to supplement the meals at the shelter. The vegetables and herbs, planted in 5 and 7 gallon grow bags, sit in a sunny spot near the shelter entrance on Marinelli Road and are cared for by the residents. As the pictures indicate, the garden is prospering and the residents are already harvesting its bounty. Everybody Grows hopes to add to the garden and provide the residents with additional vegetables that can be eaten raw and do not require cooking.
